21 Women Received Free Legal Assistance

21 women from southern Republic of Moldova, survivors of violence, have benefited from free legal assistance and court representation through the partnership between UN Women Moldova and the Public Association Ophelia – a non-governmental organization based in Cahul that provides support to women and children affected by violence and promotes the right to a life free from violence.

Legal services are provided within the framework of the project “Enhancing Women’s Leadership for Resilient and Peaceful Societies”, implemented by UN Women Moldova with financial support from the Government of Denmark.

Since the launch of the project in February 2025, AO Ophelia has informed over 70 women and girls about their rights, available protection mechanisms, and institutions they can turn to for assistance. Of these, 21 women have received qualified legal assistance in cases related to divorce, determination of child residence, child support, and obtaining protection measures against perpetrators.

Throughout each legal procedure, beneficiaries are supported by lawyer Maxim Todorov, who provides legal counselling, explains procedural steps, and represents them before the courts. All services are provided free of charge and in full confidentiality.

Through such partnerships, we contribute to expanding access to justice for women in vulnerable situations, particularly in communities where specialized services are less accessible.

If you are experiencing violence, you can contact AO Ophelia at (+373) 79 120 012 or the Women and Girls’ Trust Line at 0 8008 8008 for free and confidential support. In case of immediate danger, call 112.
