This project is implemented with the support of UN Women Moldova, within the initiative “Enhancing Women’s Leadership for Resilient and Peaceful Societies”, funded by the Embassy of Denmark in the Republic of Moldova. The project aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of women-led civil society organizations in order to improve access to specialized protection and justice services for women survivors of violence.
Through this initiative, two civil society organizations — the Ophelia Public Association in the southern region and the DACIA Association in Soroca, in the northern region — have expanded their existing services and introduced a new essential service: qualified legal assistance for women affected by violence against women and gender-based violence. The project contributes to enhancing the organizations’ ability to respond more effectively to the needs of beneficiaries by providing professional legal support tailored to the local context.
A strong emphasis is placed on informing and empowering women and girls through awareness-raising activities on their rights, national legislation on domestic and gender-based violence, legal protection mechanisms, and available options for preventing and combating violence. At the same time, women survivors of violence benefit from qualified legal assistance, including court representation, support in drafting legal applications, and assistance in obtaining protection orders and emergency restraining orders, thereby contributing to increased safety and autonomy.
